TUNNEL HILL - Chris Washo turned in a big night passing to launch Mid Valley into the postseason.

Mid Valley, led by Washo's 164 yards passing and three scores, defeated Lackawanna Trail, 50-24, Friday at Lions Pride stadium to clinch the No. 4 seed for the District 2 Class AA playoffs.

Next week, the Spartans will get a rematch of Week 1 at Dunmore, the No. 1 Class AA team in the state according to the Harrisburg Patriot-News.

After Lackawanna Trail fumbled on the opening kickoff, it took Mid Valley four plays to travel 37 yards for a touchdown capped by a 6-yard run by Brandon Bradshaw.

It appeared that the Lions were going to answer, but Dennis O'Hara intercepted a pass at the 10-yard line and nearly took it all the way for a score. It took Mid Valley three plays to travel 13 yards for a touchdown when Washo found Brett Howey for a 16-0 lead.

The Lions scored their first points of the game six seconds into the second quarter on a 7-yard touchdown run by Sean Fricke, who eclipsed the 1,000-yard mark on the season in the game.

Washo responded by hitting Gage Wormuth with 1:34 left in the first half.

The Lions scored the last points of the first half on a 25-yard field goal by Pete Murazzi with 28 remaining.

The Spartans put the game away early in the second half when Mitch Bialy rushed for a 23-yard touchdown, which capped off a six-play 70-yard drive.
