Rankings shuffle as teams head into final week of regular season

As the regular season heads into the final week, there were some changes in the bottom half of the high school football rankings.

Lakeland made the biggest move, vaulting into the top 5 for the first time all season, and Carbondale and Scranton Prep climbed a couple of spots.

Meanwhile at the top, while enduring a scare, Dunmore stays the unanimous No. 1, and no changes among the top 4.

Dunmore is in position to go 10-0 for the first time since 1999. The Bucks have been 9-0 in each of the last two seasons only to have Riverside spoil their regular seasons.

This season, the game will be played at Dunmore Veterans Memorial Stadium.

North Pocono stayed No. 2 and is in position to win at least a share of its first division title since 2001. The Trojans host red-hot West Scranton this week and with a win can clinch at least a tie for the crown in the Lackawanna Division I.

Old Forge is ranked third and is seeking its first perfect regular season since 1987. The Blue Devils will play Susquehanna on Friday night and can win their second straight division championship outright with a victory.

Abington Heights is ranked fourth and can also share the Division I title with a win Saturday against Honesdale.

Lakeland jumped from No. 8 to No. 5 after winning its fourth straight game. The Chiefs have also put themselves in position to qualify for the District 2 Class AA playoffs for the 11th straight season if they can beat Montrose on Friday night.

Carbondale, which has won two straight, is all the way up to No. 6. The Chargers are still in position to impact the District 2 Class AA playoff picture and possibly the Eastern Conference playoffs.

Wallenpaupack fell to No. 7 after a loss to West Scranton. The Buckhorns are still in the running for a District 2-4-11 Class AAAA subregional playoffs, but would need a win over Delaware Valley on Friday.

Delaware Valley is back into the rankings after a win over Scranton, coming in at No. 10.

Scranton Prep is up from No. 10 to No. 8 after shutting out Valley View. The Cavaliers are in the running for an Eastern Conference Class AAA playoff berth and will host Western Wayne on Saturday.

And Susquehanna, despite its loss, remained in the poll at No. 9.

Agreed that the head to head winner should win outright. As a senior at Scranton we beat Abington 35-0 and "shared" the league title. See also:last season Penn State shared the Big Ten title with Ohio State after winning the head to head matchup...

Yea and they also got POUNDED by Del. Val...who's only division loss is to Abington....play a little more challenging non-conference schedule and then you'll get some respect. Right now North Pocono is in the same spot Paupack is in...beating up on the weaker LFC teams and playing cream puffs out of conference. NP is by NO means outright champs...in fact...DelVal is going to share in that LFC D1 championship if they beat Paupack this week. NP, Abington and DelVal will ALL have 1 loss in division if that's how things go.
