DUNMORE - In search of its first perfect regular season since 1999, the Dunmore Bucks turned to sensational running back Michael Perry as he led the Bucks to a convincing 48-14 victory over Riverside on Friday night at Dunmore Veterans' Memorial Stadium.
Perry carried the load offensively for the Bucks as they were successful in reaching the end zone on their first four possessions, all of which were touchdown runs by Perry.
"Tonight really feels great, we came out and played hard," Perry said. "The past two years we were 9-0, but Riverside beat us in the final game, but tonight we were able to come out on top."
Perry, who did not play a snap in the second half, carried 23 times for 161 yards.
"The offensive line really blocked well tonight and just made it easy for me," Perry said.
On the opening play, Riverside quarterback Nicholas Dranchak dropped back, attempting to throw a deep pass. However, it was intercepted by Mike Ehnot for his first of two interceptions on the night.
Perry put the Bucks on the board first with a 20-yard run for a 7-0 lead. Following a punt by the Vikings, Perry again found the end zone on a 5-yard run.
After forcing another three-and-out, Perry found himself again racing to the end zone for his third score, this time from 2 yards.
Late in the second quarter, Perry raced 5 yards for his final touchdown of the game, and a commanding 27-6 Dunmore lead.
Dunmore closed out the first half as quarterback Dave Olivetti hit senior tight end Brian Copeland for the 19-yard scoring strike.
In the second half, Dunmore kept pounding the football behind the running of Franco Senofonte and Tom Lapinski, who each scored on touchdown runs of 6 and 2 yards respectively.
Riverside was able to reach the end zone in the first half as Dranchak hit Tommy Armillay with a 41-yard strike.
To close out the game, the Vikings reached the end zone a final time as Michael Dranchak scored from 5 yards out.
"Dunmore is a very well coached team, they played well, but next week is a new season for us," said Riverside coach Harry Armstrong, whose team will play next week in the District 2 Class A playoffs at Old Forge, where it lost 43-12 on opening night.
Dunmore, the top seed in Class AA, begins defense of its District 2 title against Mid Valley next week.
