Go figure.

A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees offense that has been down more than it has been up this season wound up with three representatives on the International League All-Star team, which league officials announced Thursday morning.

Meanwhile, the Yankees pitching staff that leads the IL in earned run average didn't have a single representative on the squad, which will take on the Pacific Coast League all-stars on July 15 at Portland's PGE Park.

Not as if the Yankees who did make it were actually surprises, though.

Outfielder Shelley Duncan was one of the top two vote-getters in online fan voting thanks to his league-leading 21 homers and 65 RBIs. Duncan also leads the circuit in runs scored and extra-base hits, and he's second in slugging percentage.

Fellow outfielder Austin Jackson is also on the IL roster. One of the top outfield prospects in baseball, the 22-year-old is hitting .318 and has stolen 14 bases without being caught this season.

The third Yankees representative is catcher Chris Stewart, a defensive standout who has helped guide the Yankees' standout pitching staff to the top of the IL North standings. Stewart is hitting .272 with no homers and five RBIs.

Pawtucket pitcher Clay Buchholz - the Red Sox prospect who threw a no-hitter as a rookie with Boston in 2007 - was the top online vote-getter among pitchers. He has been dominant in Triple-A, posting a 6-1 record and 2.05 ERA.

Two former Red Barons also were selected to play.

Strong-armed Syracuse outfielder Jorge Padilla, who is hitting .365 for the Chiefs, was selected for his first Triple-A All-Star Game. He manned right field for the Red Barons in 2004 and 2005.

The other is veteran right-hander Nelson Figueroa, who is 3-4 with a 2.61 ERA for Buffalo. He won eight games for the Red Barons in 2000 and 2001.
