Work to begin on bridge project

SCRANTON - Repairs to the River Street bridge over Interstate 81 will affect traffic on the South Scranton span through the winter, the state Department of Transportation said Thursday.

Traffic on the bridge will be limited to one lane in each direction, beginning Wednesday, while the deck is replaced, the piers are encapsulated and other repairs are made, PennDOT said.

The project is expected to be completed in summer 2010, the agency said.

At the same time, they should take a look at putting a light at the River St. & Meadow Ave. intersection. That intersection is a fatality waiting to happen. Of course in Scranton, someone will probably have to be killed before anything gets done about it.

Isn't it funny how PENDOT is able to work on all these bridges now that everyone has the ability to look up how well they tested in the structural surveys?
