Moscow bridge work forces detour

MOSCOW - The replacement of the Market Street bridge over Roaring Brook in Moscow will mean a detour for motorists until at least the fall, the state Department of Transportation said.

Market Street will be closed beginning Monday while the existing bridge is demolished and a new bridge is constructed, PennDOT said. The project is expected to be finished in late October.

Traffic will be detoured from Market Street to Madisonville Road to Brook Street while the work is under way, PennDOT said.

Clarks Summit OKs nuisance ordinance

CLARKS SUMMIT - At a meeting Wednesday, borough council passed a nuisance ordinance, giving more backing to borough officials who try to enforce things such as noise problems, junk vehicles and dangerous structures.

Borough Manager Virginia Kehoe said the goal is to reach out to residents about the restrictions and to have regulations on the books to cite when trying to address certain situations.

Among its purposes, the ordinance declares certain actions as public nuisances and prohibits the existence of dangerous buildings and structures, regulates burning and abates other public nuisances to prevent the blight and deterioration of property.

The ordinance can be viewed in its entirety at the borough office.

Martino announces priest appointments

SCRANTON - Bishop Joseph Martino announced almost 100 priest appointments Thursday, many of which affect Lackawanna County parishes and programs.

Many of the appointments are aligned with the reorganization and consolidation plan the Diocese of Scranton outlined in February.

While the reorganizations have staggered dates for completion throughout the next three years, many of the appointments begin or continue efforts to link parishes that will eventually consolidate or share programs and personnel.
