A West Scranton man and his girlfriend were arrested Tuesday on assault and weapons charges after holding two people at gunpoint in what started as a mother-son dispute over allegedly stolen money, city police said.

No one was injured in the incident late Monday at an apartment at 1617 Swetland St.

Thomas Donald Hazelton, 28, and his girlfriend, Debra K. Nally, 27, both of 440 Aswell Court, are accused of threatening apartment resident Eddie Mock and Mr. Hazelton's mother, Donna Hazelton, with loaded handguns after barging into the home shortly before 11 p.m., police said.

According to arrest papers prepared by Officer James Weaver, Mr. Hazelton initially drew a handgun from his waistband, cocked it and put it to his mother's head while threatening to shoot her.

At his direction, Ms. Nally then drew a second handgun and stood watch over Ms. Hazelton and Mr. Mock, police said.

"Keep an eye on them. If any one of them move, shoot their ass," Mr. Mock quoted Mr. Hazelton as telling his girlfriend, according to the arrest affidavit.

When Officer Weaver arrived in response to a neighbor's complaint, he heard loud arguing from inside the apartment, including mention of a gun. He called for additional officers, who set up a perimeter around the home.

Police ordered all four people out of the residence, and they were handcuffed as they exited. Inside the apartment, officers found two 9mm handguns, each loaded with hollow point bullets, along with drug paraphernalia, police said. A set of brass knuckles was found in Ms. Nally's purse in her vehicle.

The suspects both told officers they had valid permits to carry the handguns; they denied threatening Mr. Mock or Ms. Hazelton with them, police said.

Ms. Nally told police she and Mr. Hazelton went to the apartment because his mother had stolen money from him. Mr. Mock said Mr. Hazelton accused his mother of stealing $500 to $600 and seven pounds of marijuana, according to the affidavit.

Magisterial District Judge James Kennedy arraigned Mr. Hazelton and Ms. Nally on a long list of charges, including aggravated and simple assault, terroristic threats, reckless endangerment and possessing instruments of crime.

Both were ordered held in the Lackawanna County Prison - Mr. Hazelton on $50,000 bail and Ms. Nally on $100,000 bail.

Jeepster don't be a smartass. Not once did I say people are not entitled to voice their opinions. It is the insults and labels that are being thrown around. Calling them trash is just wrong...be it my sister or yours. It's not like Tom and Krissy are always in the news and being arrested for crimes. They were pushed too far, let their emotions take control and made a poor choice. If everyone that has ever made a bad decision is automatically considered trash, then we all belong in the dump.
Krissy's sister 07/02/09 04:59
THey were wrong no other way about it it doesnt matter what the hell they look like i mean really they could look like your average yuppy !!! they went about this the wrong way if they thought that noone was going to call the cops that was just silly!! if the mother had stolen money from them then go to the cops have them raid her house if she is a druggy they would of found something to put her in jail and then send her to get the help they needed. Nothing bad said about the ppl themselves just what a bad decision!!! Now they will look terrible especially THey put a gun to someones head i mean they could easily be going away for murder if the gun went off

Passing judgement without the facts? Well, the facts appear pretty simple: Drugs, guns and violence. Lack of morals and values.
Jeff 07/02/09 03:43
I agree with John from a previous post....."white trash". We seem to have an abudance of it here. Maybe we could load them all up in a fleet of DPW trucks and hall them away. That's a thought.....

"Krissy's Sister" wants everyone to shut up, unless it's something good about her sister, then you're ok to voice your opinion.

I'm not the type of person to post comments, and was refraining from doing so, but I just can't sit here and read all of the BS on here and keep my mouth shut. You people are all such a joke, coming on here and spouting off with your judgments, insults and pointless drivel. It really shows that ignorance comes cheap in Scranton. Apparently you're all perfect and know everything. Little bits of info in a newspaper article and you think you know enough to label them. You are IDIOTS!
*For those of you that are here to support them and offer some defense against all of these ignorant asses on here, keep it up.

The truth will come out about this.. I have a feeling it was in regards to tough love, he loves his mother and is more than likely hurt because of this new path she chose.... I know that he is a kind person being that Ive known him my entire life.... I hope this gets cleared up soon.. Judging on a newspaper forum makes you all worse than those that supposedly commit these crimes..
